Lindsey – Registered Clinical Counsellor

I am registered clinical counsellor (RCC), holding a Master’s degree in counselling psychology. I aim to provide a warm, compassionate and safe space where you are welcome just as you are. I recognize the importance of taking a holistic approach that involves the mind, body and spirit, the three factors that make up who we are. I value taking the time to understand where you currently are in your life and what you are experiencing. I tailor the therapeutic process to fit your unique needs, values and goals using evidence-based approaches. We will work collaboratively to help you uncover and build on your inner strengths to empower you to navigate the challenges you are currently facing.

I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Before enrolling in my Master’s program, I completed my Natural Nutrition Diploma at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, where I became a holistic nutritionist. I also have experience helping youth and adults in crisis from my time volunteering with Kids Help Phone.

I would be honoured to walk alongside you on your journey.

“I have been going to see Lindsey since July and she has absolutely changed my life! She is kind, listens to you fully and gives you the tools you need to help you through your problems. Luke – Registered Clinical Counsellor & Registered Social Worker

Luke comes from a background of Social Work and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a Registered Social Worker (RSW). He focuses on helping clients discover what it means for them to live authentically, and what is holding them back from doing so. His journey with mental health challenges has fueled his passion for helping others navigate paths toward their healing and self-discovery. He understands the deep complexities and emotional struggles we encounter while striving to create the life we want. “Healing” is nonlinear and means something different for everyone. This is why Luke embraces tenets of narrative therapy as his favourite tool in counselling because the focus is on one’s individual story. Through this approach, he collaborates with clients to explore and evaluate their personal stories and values, offering new perspectives and empowering them to rewrite their narratives in a way that promotes growth, stability, and self-compassion.

Luke blends various other therapeutic modalities into his sessions to work in tandem with his narrative therapy approach. This combination allows him to tailor sessions to meet individuals where they are at, with flexibility and comfort in mind. Each of us knows what it means to live authentically – we all want to be ourselves. Counselling with Luke offers a safe space to learn what is holding you back, and the skills you need to get to the life you want to live and thrive in your relationships. Most importantly, your relationship with yourself.

It is important to find a good fit with a counsellor and having learned from his own experiences as a client, Luke offers free consultation calls to ease anxiety and answer any questions you may have.

She holds a Life Coaching Certificate and is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University.

She believes everyone has a story that is worthy of being shared with someone who genuinely wants to listen. Maddie completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of British Columbia and completed her master’s degree in clinical counselling at Yorkville University. JoAnn Hill – Registered Clinical Counsellor (Candidate)

My journey has been deeply intertwined with a person-centered approach. In my world, I firmly believe that the client holds the keys to their own expertise. Having spent 18 years as a massage therapist, I’ve witnessed the profound impact of stress and emotions on the body. It’s fascinating how our nervous system, when ignored, can lead to a myriad of issues.

A mantra close to my heart is, “the relationship with yourself is the most important one you will ever have.” Embracing this philosophy, I relish guiding individuals in unlearning outdated patterns and replacing them with new, empowering ideas. My own transformative experience in learning to regulate the nervous system and reconnect with the body has been life-changing, and I’m eager to share this journey with others.

I aspire to equip people with a personalized toolbox, tailored to their unique needs. Together, we explore facets like the inner critic and inner coach, fostering self-compassion, nurturing a kinder inner voice, cultivating self-awareness, and scrutinizing thought patterns and narratives. Employing somatic experiencing tools allows us to decode the language of the body and understand the nuances of nervous system responses.

Beyond my professional identity, I wear the hats of a parent and step-parent. Life has blessed me with a diverse array of experiences, offering invaluable lessons that I strive to embody in my daily life—though, like everyone, I am only human. Let’s embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth, working on boundaries, communication, and various other aspects of personal development.

Her previous work experience, working with those with disabilities, mental illness, drug addiction, and physical limitations has given her knowledge on a variety of different issues people struggle with and get blocked by.

Christina’s philosophy is that life problems and challenges are catalysts for growth, whether in relationship, emotionally, physically, spiritually, or mentally. She will support you in amplifying your strengths and illuminate strengths that are in you, which you do not yet have awareness of.

“We instantly appreciated Christina’s gentle yet grounded process, which provided us with exceptional clarity, peace of mind, and a new perspective on issues that were deeply troubling at the time.

Christina has an intuitive ability to see what’s behind the issue... My wife is more confident in making important decisions and has stronger boundaries.

Today, our marriage honestly could not be better!”

—Craig and Kassia

“I’ve been working with Christina for almost two years. She has helped me through my deepest depression and is now supporting me as an entrepreneur. She has helped me understand my mental illness and has given me many tools and resources to manage it. I can tell she really cares and genuinely wants to facilitate positivity in people’s lives. Her personalized sessions have been the most effective therapy I’ve ever received. I have recommended Christina to many others because I truly believe she can help them like she’s helped me.

I work with clients to develop the skills they need to access the power within themselves to heal. Kate – Clinic Director/Registered Clinical Counsellor

As the founder of Next Step Counselling Group and a registered clinical counsellor (RCC), I believe an authentic connection between you and your therapist is the foundation for growth.

I am a new mother to two little girls and a boy, so I understand the challenges that life can throw our way, and I strive to bring that understanding to the counselling setting. I am passionate about helping young people—children, teenagers, and young adults (ages 6 to 20)—develop the skills to navigate life.

For school-aged children: I help clients navigate high school and all its challenges, including bullying and school performance/test anxiety.

For youth with autism spectrum disorders (ASD): I help clients learn the life skills they need to grow into confident, independent adults.

Kate worked with my son Jade, who has high functioning autism, for three years. At age 17, he was floundering as to what to do with his life and had many social issues. Kate has an acute sensitivity for guiding her clients and instilling confidence in them so they can get over life’s hurdles—especially when us parents don’t always know what direction to go next. My son now has a full-time job. He is happy, confident, and on his way to full independency. This gives me peace of mind for his life and future that I never would have thought possible back in 2016 (before we met Kate).  Kate will always have a special place in our hearts, and we are so grateful to have been one of the first families she counselled.

Steve-Registered Therapeutic Counsellor & Certified Addiction Recovery
Coach

Are alcohol or drugs interfering in your life and you’re unsure what to do? Are you a concerned family member or friend looking for options on how best to support them?

I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) and Certified Recovery Coach (CCRC) who would be happy to help. With over 15 years of personal sobriety and over a decade working in the field of mental health and addictions, I have helped hundreds of individuals at various stages of change and recovery. A Recovery Coach is a great way to triage your needs and develop a plan of action to explore and improve your relationship with alcohol or drugs. Coaching is a collaborative process that provides direct, 1-1 support, guidance, mentorship and accountability. Addiction is a progressive illness getting worse over time. You do NOT have to hit rock bottom in order to start making changes in your life. In fact, the earlier you intervene, the better your chances for success. The majority of my clients are high-functioning individuals who haven’t lost everything. They hold down jobs, raise kids, have supportive families, but
substances are preventing them from functioning at an optimal level. Addiction treatment is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. Each plan and program is uniquely tailored to each individual based on their needs and wants. All that is required to start is an open mind and a willingness to change. I am not here to label, diagnose or judge you, but to walk beside you on your recovery journey. Whether you are looking to cut back, take a break, quit completely or maybe you’re not even sure if you have a problem, there is an option for you.

Leslie – Registered Clinical Counsellor

I recognize how essential it is for my clients to feel heard and supported and to have their concerns addressed as quickly and effectively as possible. I view therapy as a collaborative process where I work with my clients to acquire the appropriate coping skills for their present difficulties while gaining the understanding and insight needed to handle future challenges. By working together, I will help you to build on your strengths and expand your skills to not only cope with the obstacles in life, but to optimize your well-being and to reach your full potential.

I am a registered clinical counsellor who uses an integrative approach, and therefore, counselling techniques are tailored to your needs and personal circumstances. I provide treatment in the following approaches: Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural therapy (DBT), Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), Person-centered therapy, and Solution-focused therapy (SFBT). I work with adults experiencing many challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma.

Whatever the reason you are seeking counselling, it can be helpful to have someone to talk with who is not going to judge, analyze, or tell you what to do. With my clients, I always aim to provide a safe space for therapy where we can discuss and explore a range of issues, have those difficult conversations, and where you can share your thoughts and feelings. Most importantly, this is a time where the focus is you.

“I am so grateful for the counselling I received from Leslie. She helped me work through some things that felt very overwhelming and really helped provide me with the tools to get myself out of the rut I had fallen into emotionally. I am in such a better place emotionally and mentally and I could not have done it without her!”

Gaylene – Registered Clinical Counsellor

I began my own journey in counselling about 25 years ago. I was lost, alone, and facing many unbearable losses in my life. I didn’t have the emotional tools, skills, support, or knowledge that I needed…which is when with the help of a counsellor I began my own path of healing and growth. I remain committed to doing my own work and I feel that is an important piece of the work to bring to my clients. I’ve been there, I’ve felt broken and helpless and life has dealt some unexpected intense blows. There was no quick fix and at times it felt like the struggle would never end. I don’t know if I couldn’t have arrived where I am without the guidance from my own counsellors. There have been unexpected gifts from the struggle, and there is hope. I am a testament to the process.

Helping people has been my lifelong passion, and through counselling services I’ve helped people recognize their strengths, nurtured their abilities to grow, and helped them heal themselves.

I can walk beside you like a mountain guide, pointing out things like dangers and shortcuts and which tools to use, how to use your map, when to rest and refuel, potential dangers of various routes, helping you along on your journey. I can’t walk it for you or rescue you, but there are times when I can guide and assist you in how to help yourself. Often we can even laugh together.

I have a unique ability to connect with individuals and to help them feel comfortable, safe and at ease. As an empathetic listener, I have a sensitivity to tuning into the needs of others.

Being non-judgmental, open, and committed to authenticity are qualities I bring to the counselling process.

I practice with genuine gentleness, compassion, humour, acceptance, curiosity, creativity, and a sense of adventure so that people feel open to exploring their needs in a safe manner.I work with ages 12 and up. My favourite group to work with are youth, who despite me being on the riper end of life, most youth still find me pretty ok to work with. I also love working with all other ages and with a variety of issues.
My work experience includes: private practice; working in agencies that focus on crises intervention and working with crimes and trauma and the court process that follows; with agencies that provide services to immigrants and refugees; with agencies that provided counselling for children and youth that were impacted by sexualized violence and other forms of developmental and/or complex trauma; as a school counsellor in a First Nations run school; and with an agency that provides grief counselling for youth and young adults. Each experience has brought new insights, skill, complexities, perspectives, and appreciation and feelings of privilege and honour for people allowing me to accompany them on their journey and being a part of this kind of work.

Testimonials

  • “I’ve been working with Christina for almost two years.

  • After many years of counselling I arrived at Next Step expecting the more of same, listening and guiding. However, Hailey’s approach, including using EMDR, was very different to previous therapy and empowered me. Within a few months I felt a huge difference that has been long-lasting since stopping a few months ago. I highly recommend Next Step! Thank you.”
