Abi Hall – Student Therapist
I am a student therapist completing my practicum at Next Step Counselling as part of the Master of Social Work program at the University of British Columbia. I work under the direct supervision of Clinic Director, Katelyn Schouten. I also hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology and have experience supporting youth and their families in the non-profit sector.
I welcome youth and adults experiencing concerns such as anxiety, stress, burnout, perfectionism, self-esteem, body image, emotional regulation, life transitions, and relationship challenges. I am passionate about meeting clients where they are at, fostering their strengths, and creating space for them to feel heard, seen, and understood.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and strengths-based. I draw from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), while also working from a trauma-informed lens. I tailor each session to fit your unique needs and goals.
I understand that starting counselling can feel difficult or even overwhelming. You may feel stuck, unsure where to begin, or wonder if things could be different. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences, build self-awareness, and develop tools to move forward in ways that feel meaningful to you.
In addition to counselling, I am a competitive dance coach for children and teens. This role has given me insight into challenges related to performance, comparison, self-talk, and realistic goal-setting, as well as the importance of building supportive, trusting relationships. Outside of work, I enjoy reading fiction, playing pickleball, and crafting!
